DECA on your resume

Once I was asked about adding DECA to my resume to help fuel myself into the job world. I knew the answer right away but I wanted to let the people I was talking to know why. When you compete, win, or are even involved in DECA it can help boost your resume worth to a company. There are two areas I will discuss here and they are as follows; first if DECA is on your resume and the interviewer doesn't know what it is and second if DECA is on your resume and the interviewer knows what it is.

First if DECA is on your resume and the interviewer doesn't know what it is your going to get your foot into the door early. The first question I always receive is; What is this DECA thing? Right away you're able to explain to the person that you have been involved in a group that competes within the same work that you're being interviewed there. The person may ask you to describe the event you competed in which will allow you to talk about specifics about your involvement.

Secondly, if DECA is on your resume and the interviewer knows what it is. This is something I've experienced many times because DECA is well know within the business world. When you have information about DECA on your resume you will be able to connect with that person more because they know what it is. It's like a baseball coach hiring another coach, he will hire a coach with prior experience.
